Bids totaled more than 1000MW, almost double of that required, indicating a growing interest for wind energy projects in Quebec

Ottawa based Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) reported today that Hydro-Quebec received almost double the amount of bids required in their call for tenders for wind energy projects around the province. Bids totaled more than 1000MW, almost double of that required, indicating a growing interest for wind energy projects in Quebec.

Hydro-Quebec is planning to invest close to 1.4 billion dollars with 850 million going directly into regional economies. Sixteen proponents from aboriginal and communities submitted bids for 44 projects.

Robert Hornung, President of CanWEA, stated: "This is excellent news for Quebec, as well as for its various communities and regions. As further proof of the vitality of Quebec’s wind energy sector, it also affirms Hydro-Québec’s leadership role in the country.”
